Traditionally battery packaging is bulky, clumsy, and made almost entirely of plastic - not very eco-friendly considering almost all batteries can be 100% recycled. With Phoenix I focused on creating packaging that functions as a storage unit for new and used batteries that would encourage people to recycle. The battery labels are clearly marked with red and green ends. If the green end is upright in the tray, the battery is unused. When the battery dies it would be placed back in the tray red side up, indicating it is ready to be recycled. Once all the batteries are red side up in the package the consumer would drop the box off at a Phoenix recycling kiosk and received 20% off their next Phoenix battery purchase. This project was an interesting thought experiment that focused on breathing new life into packaging for generic items that are widely taken for granted.
